The company is also engaged in nuclear waste treatment and decommissioning of research reactors and power plants in Italy and Europe. Ansaldo Nucleare is also involved in the development of future generations of advance nuclear plants.

AREVA - The AREVA group was formed through the merger of all CEA- Industrie, COGEMA, FRAMATOME ANP and FCI operations. In the nuclear sector, AREVA provides services for every aspect of power generation. From uranium mining through to site clean-up and decommissioning, for power plant construction or fuel fabrication.

Bechtel Corp - The company offers a complete selection of services, including plant recovery support, plant license renewal, decontamination and decommissioning, steam generator replacement, and new nuclear generation.

British Nuclear Group (BNG) - The company was launched in May 2004 by BNFL and officially began operating as a management contractor to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the UK nuclear cleanup body, on 1 April 2005.

Connecticut Yankee (CY) - The Connecticut Yankee nuclear power plant, located in Haddam Neck, Connecticut, USA, began commercial operation in 1968 and produced more than 110 billion kWh of electricity during its 28-year operating history. In 1996, the CY Board of Directors voted to permanently close and decommission the power plant. After two years of planning and preparation, actual decommissioning began. Decommissioning is now projected to be completed by the year 2006.

Decontamination & Decommissioning Science Consortium (DDSC) - This is a consortium of US Department of Energy (DOE) decommissioning expertise to help D&D professionals stay abreast of the increasing number of technical information resources available. The DDSC integrates the perspectives of experts in dose modelling, D&D operations, remediation technologies, advanced survey instrumentation, and survey technologies (MARSSIM).

EC - DG TREN - The EC decommissioning programme comes under the Directorate-General Energy and Transport and has been addressing the issues associated with decommissioning since 1979. Having previously concentrated its work on establishing a scientific and technical basis for the safe, socially and economically acceptable decommissioning of nuclear facilities, the programme is currently focusing its attentions on the economic and regulatory aspects of decontamination and decommissioning. This link provides a comprehensive overview of the status of decommissioning activities within the EU and incorporates a searchable database of EU projects that is searchable by country, project and contractor.

European Commission Thematic Network on Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities (EC-TND) - Within the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission, a Co-ordination Network on Decommissioning of Nuclear Installations (CND) was created with organisations from the EU as well as from candidate countries, involved in decommissioning activities. It invites manufacturers, users, universities, research centres, research infrastructures and regulators to participate in a EC- supported scientific and technical information exchange in the area of decommissioning.

IAEA - Nuclear Fuel Cycle Information Service (NFCIS) - The NFCIS is an international searchable directory of civilian nuclear fuel cycle facilities. The service is unrestricted but you need to register by e-mail prior to access. The service provides information on shutdown, decommissioning and decommissioned plants (laboratory, pilot plant and commercial). Current decommissioning stage status and previous stage completion dates are available. A link to information resources provides useful listings of publications available on the projects concerned.

Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co Ltd (IHI) - The company has been supplying engineering services and hardware to the nuclear industry since 1955. IHI has expertise in the supply of primary components for nuclear power plants, as well as nuclear engineering for nuclear fuel cycle plants. The company also offers advanced technology related to plant maintenance and mitigation, decommissioning, in addition to designing nuclear waste management facilities with hardware supply as Plant System Supplier.

Maine Yankee - This US plant, Maine's only nuclear power plant, was officially closed in August 1997. On 3 October 2005, Maine Yankee was notified by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission that its former plant site has been successfully decommissioned in accordance with NRC procedures.

NRC - 'Frequently Asked Questions About Reactor Decommissioning' - The NRC has published a paper that deals with general questions regarding regulatory, waste, transport, economic and safety issues associated with decommissioning nuclear power plants. A range of publications and briefings are available at the NRC website which deal with regulatory aspects of US nuclear power plants and the current status of decommissioning facilities.

Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) - The NDA is a public body formed by an Act of Parliament in 2004. Our purpose is to oversee and manage the decommissioning and clean-up of the UK's civil nuclear legacy.

RadWaste.org - This is a comprehensive website portal whose primary purpose is to provide a reference source for radioactive waste management professionals. The site contains a general decommissioning portal, together with links to specific decommissioning projects, with particular focus on the decommissioning of US nuclear facilities.
