Peter Body

Mr Peter Body emigrated to Australia in 1971 following a period as an environmental chemist at the then Steel Company of Wales, first in Port Talbot and later at the Newport research centre. Following employment with the Queensland Alumina Company, he joined the Australian Commonwealth Government to work on environmental issues in Darwin. He later moved to become the first permanent manager of the Alligator Rivers Region Research Institute, which involved him in environmental issues relating to the four proposed uranium mining operations in the region. Mr Body was seconded to the South Australian Environmental Impact Assessment group to assess the environmental impacts of the Olympic Dam copper/uranium mining venture, and the Honeymoon and Beverley  in-situ leach mining of uranium. This initial one-year secondment in fact lasted for 17 years, after which he left to establish his own environmental consultancy group, PB Environmental Services.
