Rolf Linkohr

Mr Rolf Linkohr MEP studied physics and physical chemistry at the Universities of Stuttgart, Munich and Aberdeen before obtaining a diploma in physics in 1966. In 1969 he was awarded a PhD on the kinetics of ion exchangers, following which he worked at Deutsche Automobil GmbH on development of car batteries. He has been a member of the Metal Workers Union since 1971, and of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) since 1964. He held several party positions in the 1970s, and was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 1979. He is a member of the EP’s Committee on Energy, Research and Technological Development, and a substitute member of several other committees. Since 1989 he has been Chairman of the EP’s Scientific and Technological Options Assessment, and in 1994 he became President of the European Energy Foundation. He speaks five foreign languages.
