Mr Vince J Madden became Director of the Co-ordinating Centre of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) in 1995. Prior to this appointment he had worked in the UK nuclear power industry for 31 years. He was involved in design, commissioning and operational aspects of the UK programme, working at five nuclear power plants. By academic training a physicist, during his early years he was involved in nuclear safety and performance activities. After 16 years working in power stations, he established a nuclear engineering group covering four stations in the southwest of England. For ten years he was Nuclear Training Manager, during which time he established a PWR training centre and a full scope replica simulator for the Sizewell PWR. Prior to joining WANO in 1995 he was responsible for Nuclear Electric’s HQ Operational Standards unit, a post which covered operational experience feedback, human factors, performance indicators, the UK peer review programme, and the interface to WANO and INPO for all four UK nuclear utilities. Internationally, he has worked for more than 15 years in a variety of roles with the IAEA, has chaired a UNIPEDE Group of Experts, and has been a member of the G24 Technical Working Group on Training. |
