Dr Francesco Venneri is Project Leader of the Accelerator-Driven Transmutation of Waste (ATW) Project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He received his PhD in nuclear engineering and plasma physics at the University of Illinois in 1988. After work at the University of Wisconsin on the reverse field pinch toroidal fusion machine, and at General Atomics on high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs), in 1990 he joined Los Alamos to work in the Controlled Thermonuclear Reactions (CTR) Division. In 1992 he started working with Charles Bowman, one of the initiators of the Los Alamos ATW Project. From 1993–97, he was the science and technology co-ordinator for the project, before becoming Project Leader in March 1997. |
