Ms Agneta Rising is a corporate Senior Advisor at Vattenfall AB (formerly the Swedish State Power Board) specialising in the area of nuclear energy and the environment. Since joining Vattenfall in 1980 she has worked on radiation protection issues related to the nuclear fuel cycle, and was previously Head of the Deaprtment of Radiological Safety. Prior to that she held positions at the Swedish National Institute of Radiation Protection and at the University of Stockholm. She obtained an MSc degree in radiation physics and is a qualified health physicist. Ms Rising was a co-founder of the Women In Nuclear organisation and has been its President since 1996. She became Chairman of the Uranium Institute in 2000 and will hold the post until May 2002. She is also President of the European Nuclear Society, and has previously held numerous positions in these and other nuclear organisations, in Sweden and internationally. She has participated in Vattenfall's environmental audits of nuclear fuel cycle suppliers, including uranium mines in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Canada and Russia. Ms Rising lectures widely to groups such as teachers, politicians, students and emergency personnel, and is also involved in training nuclear industry employees in environmental and radiological protection. |
