Biography of Ioan Rotaru

Dr Ioan Rotaru is the Director General of Societatea Nationala "Nuclearelectrica"SA since 2000. An engineer, Ph.D., by degree in the domain "Management in electricity generation by nuclear technologies", he graduated from the Polytechnical University of Bucharest, Romania in 1972 in Automatics profile. Rotaru worked as Design Engineer and Head of I&C design division in the Institute of Power Studies and Design (ISPE) and in the Nuclear Power Reactors Institute (INRNE) - Bucharest in the period 1972-1991. Untill 1995 he was Director for the investment activity and Director for the commissioning of Unit 1 Cernavoda NPP, in the Nuclear Power Group of the Romanian Electricity Authority (RENEL). In 1998 he was appointed Technical and Nuclear Safety Director in the newly created company "Nuclearelectrica". Rotaru is a member of the Board of Governors of WANO- Atlanta Centre and President of the Romanian Association "Energetica Nucleara" (AREN.)
