Mr. Gitzel has been the AREVA’s Executive Vice-President since June 2001. He is responsible for the worldwide uranium and gold operations of the Mining Business Unit.
Prior to being appointed to his current position, Mr Gitzel was President and CEO of the AREVA group's Canadian operations, COGEMA Resources Inc., headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada .He remains Chairman of the Board of COGEMA Resources Inc. From 1990 to 1993 Mr. Gitzel worked as a lawyer and also served as Ministerial Assistant to the Deputy Premier and Minister of Economic Development for Saskatchewan. Tim Gitzel joined COGEMA Resources on a full time basis in 1993, after having worked intermittently for the company since 1979. He was appointed Senior Vice-President and Corporate Counsel in 1997 and assumed the role of President and CEO in September 2001. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Mr. Gitzel pursued undergraduate studies at Red Deer College in Alberta and Université Laval in Québec. He received an Honours Degree in Arts and Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 1986, and a Law Degree from the same university in 1990. Mr. Gitzel was formerly President of the Saskatchewan Mining Association and served on the Boards of Directors of the Canadian Nuclear Association, SaskEnergy Corporation, and the Royal University Hospital Foundation. He remains a Co-Chair of the Hospital's "Royal Care" capital campaign. |
