Dr. Hawley is Chairman of Berkley Resources Ltd and Carron Energy Ltd and is a Non-Executive Director of Colt Telecom Group plc and Rutland Trust plc. He has been Managing Director of CA Parsons and NEI plc, CEO of Nuclear Electric and British Energy, a Board Member of Rolls-Royce plc and Chairman of several companies, including Taylor Woodrow plc and until 2004 an Advisory Director to HSBC Bank plc. He is an acknowledged international expert on power generation energy and the environment and he is the author of several books and many papers on aspects of power generation and dielectrics.
He was awarded the 1989 IEE achievement Medal for his outstanding contribution to power engineering and the IIE Presidents Prize for outstanding contribution to the Engineering Profession, 2001. He has been awarded twelve honorary degrees in science, engineering and technology and is a Fellow of the City and Guilds of London Institute. He received the RSA Waverley Gold Medal Prize in 1960 and the Gwanghwa Medal - Order of Diplomatic Service, First Class, from the Republic of Korea in 1999. Dr. Hawley is a Past President of the Energy Industries Club and of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He is Past Chairman of the Engineering Council, the Engineering and Technology Board and the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council and the University of Durham . He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Physics . He was awarded the CBE in 1997 for services to the Energy Industry and to Engineering. He is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Nuclear Engineers and The Institution of Engineering and Technology. He has served on a number of Government engineering and scientific committees. He is Deputy Chairman of the Foundation for Science and Technology. He is a Freeman of the City of London and Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. |
