Sergei Kirienko

Mr Kirienko, born in 1962, graduated from the Institute of Naval Engineers (Shipbuilding faculty) in Gorky, and started working as a technician at the shipyard "Krasnoe Sormovo". He was then active in political youth movements. In 1993 he graduated from the Academy of National Economy of the Government of the Russian Federation specializing in "Finance and Banking". From 1993 to 1996, he was Chairman of Board of the Bank "Garantiya". Since 1994, he has been a member of the President’s Council on industrial policy and entrepreneurial business in the Russian Federation.

From 1996 to 1997 he was President of NorSea Oil Company. In October 1997, he was appointed Head of Interagency Committee on access of independent organizations to the RAO GAZPROM gas transportation system. Since then, he has also been a member of the collegium of state representatives in Transneft' Company (oil transportation company).

In November 1997, he was appointed Fuel and Power Industry Minister. Mr Kirienko was Chairman of the government of the Russian Federation from April 1998 to August 1998, when the Cabinet was dismissed by the President Eltsyn.

In December 1998, he started a new Russian Conservative Political Movement "Novaya Sila". In 1999, he was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, representing the Right Force Alliance. In May 2000, he became presidential representative in Privolzhskiy Federal district. Since May 2001, Mr Kirienko has chaired the State Committee on Chemical Disarmament.

In November 2005, he was appointed to the position of the Director of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) by the Government of the Russian Federation.
