Ilkka Mikkola

Mr Mikkola graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1966 and worked in Norway in the OECD Halden Energy Research Project in 1966-67. Then, till 1971, he worked in the Energy Economy Association as a consultant in power and pulp industry automation projects, both in Sweden and in Finland, and was a teacher of Power Plant Automation at the Helsinki University of Technology for several years in the early 1970s.

Mr Mikkola has been employed by TVO since 1972, first at the Olkiluoto 1-2 projects from plant and fuel contract negotiations to start up experiments of the Olkiluoto units 1-2, and later in the TVO team that produced studies, negotiated contracts and sought permits for Olkiluoto 3. He was first the power plant Technical Office Manager, and since then, he has been Manager of Fuel Procurement in Helsinki for over 20 years.

Mr Mikkola begun at TVO during the so-called first energy crisis, and thus, has a long experience of the developments and swings in the nuclear fuel markets. He has been a member of some WNA and OECD Working Groups , was the Chairman of the Finnish Nuclear Society in 1989-90, and in 1995-1997 was the Chairman of The Uranium Institute's (now WNA) Supply, Demand and Trade Committee in London, and a member of its Executive Committee. Mr Mikkola is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Euratom Supply Agency, and of its working party.
