Tariq Bin Tahir
Tariq Bin Tahir holds Masters degrees in Physics and in Nuclear Technology. He joined the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in 1976 and worked at the Karachi Nuclear Power Complex in various positions. In 1999 he was appointed as Manager, Health Physics Division at the Karachi nuclear power plant. In this role, he was responsible for the management of occupational radiation exposure, contamination control, emergency preparedness and radioactive waste management at the power plant.
Mr Tahir has also conducted WANO peer reviews at the Koeberg nuclear power plant, South Africa, in 2004 and the Atucha nuclear power plant, Argentina, in 2006.
In the autumn of 2006, Mr Tahir was appointed to his current position of Director General (Nuclear Power Waste). He is responsible for the management of radioactive waste generated from all Pakistan's nuclear power plants and civilian industry. He has represented his country at various international meetings, workshops and conferences of the WNA, IAEA, COG and WANO, and is a member of the WNA Working Group on Waste Management and Radiation Protection.
