![]() | Hon Keith N Goulet was born and raised in the northern Saskatchewan community of Cumberland House, where his family was involved in fishing, trapping and hunting as well as the tourism industry. He holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of Education from the University of Regina. A Cree Metis, Mr Goulet is fluent in both Cree and English. Mr Goulet has served as an elementary school teacher, a regional community college principal, and is past Executive Director of the Gabriel Dumont Institute, an agency providing training programmes for Metis people in Saskatchewan. Mr Goulet also played a lead role in developing the Northern Teacher Education programme, facilitating the entry of more northern aboriginal people into the teaching profession. He was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1986 representing the Cumberland Constituency which covers most of northeastern Saskatchewan. He was re-elected in 1991 and 1995. Mr Goulet became the first Metis cabinet minister in Saskatchewan in 1992, and has held several cabinet responsibilities. He was appointed Minister of Northern Affairs in November 1995. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for several provincial crown corporations, including Saskatchewan Telecommunications and the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. |
