LADY BARBARA JUDGE

Lady Judge has been Chairman of the UK Atomic Energy Authority since 2004, having joined as a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee in 2002.  From 2002-2004 she was also a member of the board of directors of the Energy Group of the Department of Trade and Industry and was its representative on the Program Board, which was the predecessor to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.  She has spoken extensively on the subjects of the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and the need for their continued construction. 

Lady Judge, began her career as a US-trained lawyer.  She received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and Juris Doctor with honours from New York University Law School.  She became a partner of a large New York law firm in 1978 specialising in corporate and financial transactions.

In 1980 she was appointed by the US President as the youngest ever Commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission.  Subsequently she was appointed as the first woman main board executive director of a London merchant bank, Samuel Montagu & Co (based in Hong Kong) and thereafter as Senior Vice President and Group Head of Bankers Trust of International Private Banking Division (based in New York). 

Lady Judge is also currently Chairman of SOAS and Deputy Chairman of Friends’ Provident plc and Murchinson United. She is also a non-executive director of Massey Energy (US) and Magna International (Canada), among others.
