CHANG-SUN KANG
Dr Chang-Sun Kang is Special Advisor to the President of the Korea Atomic Energy Institute and Professor Emeritus of nuclear engineering at Seoul National University (SNU). He retired from SNU in 2008 after 30 years of service, and his areas of expertise were health physics, radiation shielding, environmental transport of radioactivity, and neutron transport theory. He has written three text books: Modern Industrial Society and Energy; Introduction to Nuclear Engineering; and Radiation Technology. He has also presented more than 150 original papers internationally.
He received his BS from SNU in 1965 and his PhD from MIT in 1972, in nuclear engineering. He worked for United Engineers and Constructors, Inc for 7 years as the Chief Nuclear Engineer and for Daewoo Engineering Company for 4 years as the Executive Managing Director in charge of plant engineering and design before he started his career at SNU as a Professor of Nuclear Engineering.
Previously, he served as a Member of the Presidential Council on Science and Technology, and the President of the Korean Nuclear Society. At present he is a Member of the International Nuclear Safety Group of the IAEA, the President of the Pacific Nuclear Council, the President of the World Council on Isotopes, a Board Member of the Korea Radioactive Waste Management Corporation, and the Vice-President of the Korean Atomic Industrial Forum.
