MICHAEL MCMURPHY

Effective 1 September 2008, Michael A McMurphy is Senior Executive Vice President, Mining - Chemistry - Enrichment Sector, AREVA NC and a member of AREVA Nuclear Executive Committee. Previously, Mr McMurphy was President and Chief Executive Officer of AREVA NC Inc, as well as President of AREVA Inc, President of AREVA T&D Inc and a member of AREVA’s Executive Management Committee for North America.

Mr McMurphy has been an officer of AREVA NC Inc (formerly COGEMA, Inc) since 1983, when he joined the company as its Secretary and General Counsel. He subsequently was promoted to Vice President and was elected by Framatome and COGEMA as the first President of Virginia Fuels, the company that held their joint interest in the former B&W Fuel Company (now AREVA NP Inc Fuel America). He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of COGEMA, Inc in 1988. When AREVA Inc was established in 2002, Mr McMuprhy was named to its Board of Directors and was elected President in 2003. He serves on the Boards of Directors of AREVA Inc, AREVA Canada, Inc, AREVA NC Inc, AREVA NP Inc, Canberra, Transnuclear, CRI (US) and SGN, and served until 2008 on the Board of Shaw AREVA MOX Services LLC. Mr McMurphy was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Energy Institute for 10 years, and is a past President of the Uranium Producers of America.

Before joining COGEMA, Inc, Mr McMurphy was in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Operations from 1979-1983, primarily supporting the US DOE’s Uranium Enrichment Enterprise. He served ten years active duty in the Air Force, first with the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory and later as a judge advocate, culminating in an assignment as professor at the Air Force Leadership and Management Development Center and the Air Force Judge Advocate General School, teaching also at Air War College and the Air Force Base Commander’s School. After resigning his regular commission, he served as a Reserve Judge Advocate until his retirement from the Air Force Reserves.

Mr McMurphy is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy (BS), St Mary’s University (MA), and the University of Texas School of Law (JD, honours). He has several military citations and was appointed to the rank of Chevalier (knight) in the French National Order of Merit.

Mr McMurphy and his wife Maureen live in Paris and have two adult sons.
