MYUNG SEUNG YANG

Dr Myung Seung Yang has been the President of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, known as KAERI, since November 2007. Dr Yang graduated from Seoul National University with a BS degree in metallurgical engineering in 1973, and attained an MS degree from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1975. He received his PhD degree in materials science and technology from Northwestern University in the USA in 1984.

Since he joined KAERI in 1984, he has performed various research in nuclear fuel and materials development, such as CANDU fuel development, DUPIC fuel cycle, and pyroprocessing technology development. Recently, he has been very interested in back-end fuel cycle research, including the evaluation of proliferation resistance for the fuel cycle and international non-proliferation regimes.

He was the Chairman of the Nuclear Materials and Fuel Division of the Korean Nuclear Society, as well as the President of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management, Korean Chapter, and he is now a member of the Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy (SAGNE) of the IAEA.
