MICHAEL H. MONTGOMERY

Mr Montgomery has over 43 years of experience in the nuclear industry. He is an expert in all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle from procurement, fabrication, operation, waste management, to development and performance.

He started his career with General Electric Co at the Hanford facility as a research scientist specializing in reactor physics, operation and irradiation testing of materials and nuclear fuel. At United Nuclear Corp he managed the programme for the development of mixed carbide and mixed oxide fuels for the fast breeder reactor. In addition he was involved in the decommissioning of several early demonstration nuclear power plants.

During his term at Babcock and Wilcox (Framatome) he was engineering manager for nuclear fuel development and performance for the company’s commercial nuclear power plants. As a manger in the International Business Department he had responsibility for oversight and management of the Asian nuclear business with emphasis in Japan. He provided business and technical liaison for delivery of the first fuel core for the Mülheim-Kärlich reactor in Germany.

He established his own consulting business in the nuclear industry over 20 years ago to provide a wide diversity of services for technical assessment, engineering, operation of nuclear power plants, plutonium recycle for commercial nuclear power plants, material and equipment procurement, business and project management to various clients. During this period he was involved in assisting Radkowski Thorium Power Corp in the start up of its development efforts with Russia for thorium seed and blanket fuel technology.

He has undergraduate degrees in physics and mathematics from the University of Texas and a masters in nuclear engineering from the University of Washington.
