WOTAN SWIEGERS
Dr Wotan Swiegers is the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Board of Namibia and the Director of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia’s Uranium Institute. Based in Namibia, he leads the new Atomic Energy Board that advises the Namibian government on all matters relating to radiation sources and nuclear energy and established the Uranium Institute. Wotan spearheads the Namibia Uranium Stewardship programme, served on various Namibian governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as on the World Nuclear Association’s Sustainable Development Working Group.
Wotan is a medical doctor with various post graduation qualifications. He has a special interest in work related diseases, aviation and diving medicine. He is a Fellow and gold medallist of the Faculty of Family Medicine (SA College of Medicine) and a Member of the Royal College of Occupational Medicine and the American College of Environmental Medicine. He was awarded a research doctorate (PhD) and honorary academic colours by the University of Pretoria. He is a previous Director of the South African Medical Research Council’s Research Institute for Environmental Diseases.
